Turf Project Complete

We are pleased to announce that our massive off-season construction project is complete and every field at 3&2’s East Complex has been renovated with a new turf infield (outfields will remain natural grass) and we are ready to go in the spring of 2025.

The turf renovation project started on 3&2’s high school fields 1,2, & 7 with key support from the Shawnee Mission School District. 3&2 has been a partner with the District since baseball began there in the 1970s. Today, the 3&2 East Complex hosts all home varsity and sub varsity spring baseball games on these fields for Shawnee Mission West, East, North, Northwest, and South. Starting this spring, all those games will be played on turf installed by ATG Sports/Ram Turf. In addition to the new infields, ATG/Ram also installed and/or renovated field 1 & 2’s bull pens and cages. A sturdy, new net backstop was also installed on stadium field #1. Collectively, we believe these high school fields are now among the finest in the state of Kansas, and we look forward to hosting all our member schools for their full seasons, regionals, and someday soon, a state championship series!

Building on the momentum of the district’s renovation project while working alongside forward-thinking Lenexa city officials, 3&2 shifted its focus to its youth fields at the East Complex in Lenexa and renovated the balance of the infield surfaces on fields 3-6, 8, and one of our most treasured and beloved fields by all who watch, play, and coach there… field #9, aka “the pit”.

3&2 worked with Geo Surfaces/Tencate on the youth field renovation and installed a next generation turf surface called Pivot. The Pivot turf surface has no traditional sand or rubber “fill” imbedded in it. The surface relies on a much heavier carpet weave/weight and uses a “Geo Cool” surface cooling agent that has no impact on the footing or playability of the turf surface, but the Geo Cool material adds weight and turf-base security along with other standard binding agents like glue to prevent any movement whatsoever with the turf. The Pivot turf’s Geo Cool displaces the radiant heat that rises off all turf surfaces in our hot months.

We are excited to put all our renovated fields to the stress test that the baseball and softball community in this area demands. We expect upwards of 300 games per field to be played on fields 1-9 this season. With these renovations and the recent addition of sun shades, renovated restrooms, and a new concessions with a viewing area for fans, 3&2’s East complex is ready for years of bat and ball sports!

Ribbon cutting with SMSD and City of Lenexa officials will be held at 10:30AM on December 20th to unveil the new infields. Public is welcome to attend.
