Good Morning Sluggers,

Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.  We just wanted to follow up on the below 3&2 email sent yesterday.  With the season being delayed a bit, now starting the week of June 8th, our first practice date is below.  We will be sure to keep everyone update of any further changes.

Sluggers:

  • 1st Practice,Wednesday, 6/3/2020, 5pm -6:15pm (*we do have the field reserved for 2 hrs) at 3&2 West Complex Field 10 (8000 Monticello Rd, Shawnee, KS 66227
    • Attached diagram of practice location

*I will be checking to see if we can have another practices prior to our first game, but with the June 8th start, that may not be possible.  If so, it may be Friday, 6/5.  We'll continue to share more information as it becomes available.

Between now and then, continue practicing with your little Slugger, stay safe and enjoy your weekend.

Thank you,

Coaches/Parents,

We were dealt a little setback yesterday with the extension of the Governor’s Reopen Plan, which moved Phase 2, where sports facilities and activities may resume as long as social distancing can be maintained, to June 1st.  It’s been an interesting time to say the least to help direct the league during this period.  Much like you as parents, there’s no playbook or recent historical reference for managing through these dynamics.  But just like a quality at bat in baseball, you seek to win the next pitch thrown at you. Win enough of those pitches, and you win the game.  In this case, winning the game is getting your teams back on the field when it’s safe to do so. We intend to do just that starting the week of June 8th

This delay from May 18th to June 1st with a June 8th league start really impacts your summer schedule very little. We’re going to simply take the games scheduled in week one and move them (not cancel them) to the week of August 3rd. If you don’t want your season to extend into August, we’ll work with you on finding another slot mid-season. We didn’t do that as our default because some of you are already playing 2 games in a given week, and we didn’t want to risk overloading you with games.  We knew all teams were free of games the week of August 3rd.

We have had a few teams drop, which may impact your schedule, but at the same time, we’ve had many teams ask to be added to the league and play.  This is another incredible anomaly we are managing through this season. Once we release what we hope is the final version of the summer schedule, be sure to check it as some of your matchups or games may have changed slightly.

Thank you to those of you who have supported the league and in doing so, your child’s baseball season so much through these setbacks.  We have received many words of support and encouragement and even acts of kindness towards the staff and the ballpark since March. We appreciate that and it really means a lot to us. We look forward to seeing many of your teams out here in the coming weeks. Together, let’s win that next pitch!
