Preparing to Return to Play 1st & 2nd Grade MP Baseball

1st & 2nd Grade Coaches,

We are eager to start your league season here this month.  For 1st and 2nd grade teams, we start the week of June 8th just one week away.  After progressing to Phase 3 of the state of Kansas Reopen Plan, 3&2 hosted its first practices at the park last week and games over the weekend with what we can only describe as an overwhelming sense of happiness and success by our teams, spectators, and staff.  We cannot wait to share that with each of you, and we hope to continue that momentum into the weeks and months ahead.

Couple orders of business as we re-engage in machine pitch baseball at the 1st and 2nd Grade Level:

Uniforms.  We have a really cool uniform program that we hope your team takes advantage of this season.  We provide you with a uniform t-shirt top and hat for all players and coaches. 3&2 and along with the University of Kansas Health System and the Kansas City Royals sponsor this program.  As such, all the uniform tops have a Kansas City Royals logo from their vintage collection and are unique color.  When you signed your team up for the program this season, you opted in or out of that program and then selected a color for your team if you opted in.  Those have been ordered, carefully packaged and sealed, and we’ve had them in our own inventory space for over a month.  If you opted in, they’re ready for you to pickup and issue to your team.

Action 1. If you haven’t already done so, please come out to the park anytime M-F / 8-6 this week and pickup your uniform jersey and hat.  If you have a question about whether you ordered uniforms, just ask, and we’ll look up your record.  Questions to or 913-888-8055 x 300. If you need to setup a time outside of those hours or make other arrangements with us, just ask.  We will connect your team with its uniforms.

Schedule. Remember to consult your team’s schedule to ensure you have the latest version, as some of your games may have slightly changed due to team add/drops over the past 2-3 weeks.  To view your schedule go to and log in.  Go to Teams>Choose A Team>2020 Spring/Summer>Grade Level> League Level>Your Team.  Once you select your team, a bank of options will appear on the left hand side of the website including a Schedule option.  Click it to view your schedule.

On your schedule, you may notice multiple games scheduled at Mid America West Sports Complex (MAWSC). Once the Shawnee Mission School District closed its properties through August 2020, which included the district softball complex we use for machine pitch overflow, we had to get creative to get your teams its games in.  Our friends at Johnson County Parks & Rec, who run MAWSC answered the call.  Our deepest gratitude to JCPRD for stepping up to help us schedule over 150 games over the next six weeks on this property.  MAWSC has gone through a substantial field and property renovation in the off-season, which your players and families will quickly notice and appreciate.  This property is located at 20200 Johnson Dr, Shawnee, KS 66218.

As we return to play, a lot of parents and coaches are asking about playing guidelines.  Please consult the COVID-19 section of our website for a comprehensive set of guidance and FAQs.

Outside of COVID, a common question from this group has been about the number of coaches permitted during games.  Remember, keeping social distance is our golden rule with whatever you are doing at the park, but we are recommending a max of four coaches to manage machine pitch games.  For most teams, this is the number of coaches you have anyway but teams with larger rosters sometimes carry more or have a scorekeeper that sits in the dugout.  Let’s keep it to four if we can maintain that social distance here until the phase out stage of reopening.

Thanks again for playing with us, and we’ll see you out at one of our properties or sister properties very soon.

Sincerely, Neil.
